Centralia, WA -- Local flutists Lesley O'Donel and Franji Mayes provided Girls' Night Out attendees with classical music on the streets of Centralia tonight. The duo traveled the sidewalks of Tower Street, performing under the awnings of various storefronts, beginning at HubBub and ending at Heymann Whinery.

Both are members of the Northwest Wind Symphony, a regional concert band. Franji Mayes approached the Downtown Association with the idea of performing on the street during the Association's "Girls' Night Out" event as a promotion for the upcoming NWWS concert on Nov. 1. The Downtown Association welcomed the idea.

O'Donel and Mayes performed from 3-5pm this evening, receiving positive feedback from Girls' Night Out attendees and shop owners. Chronicle photographer Pete Caster was on hand, capturing images of the flutists performing and chatting with passers-by. The Chronicle, a local newspaper, is scheduled to run the photograph along with a feature article on the Northwest Wind Symphony in the Life section on October 18th.
